Some amazing things have been jotted down on napkins throughout history. US Nobel Prize winner, Paul Lauterbur’s cocktail napkin sketch turned into a magnetic resonance imaging machine, or what most of us call it, a MRI.
I don’t think a Nobel Prize is in my future, but because of my napkin doodle you are reading THE BOARDWALK today.
The idea for a newspaper in Grand Lake is nothing new. Sitting on many community committees the last few years, it has come up a time or two. So why start a newspaper now? Well it goes like this...I was sitting in the candidates forum on March 15th, and one of the candidates, Dustin Barnes, said something that struck a nerve. He said “this is not the same town I grew up in”, and he was right. It isn’t the same town we grew up in so what could I do about it? I could have just gone home and let it go, but no, that’s not me.
I started this paper to try something else to help bring us closer as a community again. Surprising how we can spend all day on social media and still not have a clue about what is really happening.
My hope is that with this newspaper will inform the locals and entertain all who pick it up to read it. Let’s show everyone Grand Lake’s personality again!
Am I a writer? No. Have I ever published anything before? No. Can I run a newspaper? I guess we’ll see. I’m not afraid of hard work, and am always determined. If I don’t know how to do something, I’ll figure it out.
I have to try, I’m to impatient to keep waiting for someone else to do it. I will promise to do my best for the paper and our town.
